MEET THE ACTONS ON AGATE
Greetings! We’re Don and Halley Acton along with our son, Izzadore (Izzy), the proud owners of Agate Lake Resort. When Halley was a young girl, she often visited a family operated resort with her family, and it was then that she began to dream of one day having her own resort. As a couple, we have continued to travel to northern Minnesota every summer to relax and build our dream of one day running a family resort. We are now fulfilling that lifelong dream!
Halley earned her degree in Hospitality Management and has over 15 years of sales and operations experience in the hospitality industry along with an extensive background in wedding and event planning. Don is a certified welder accomplished in machine handling and operation and tool repair and maintenance. He also has experience as a firefighter and in emergency care services. Together, we make a great, well-rounded team.
We appreciate the history of this resort and look forward to continuing the legacy that has been built. We know that many of you have numerous memories at the resort and we want you to continue to make memories here. In a world where change is constant, we want the resort to continue to offer a refuge to rest, reconnect, restore and recharge.
The resort is a remarkable example of God’s creation and is truly a blessing to be shared. We look forward to serving you during your next vacation, and it is our sincere hope that you will continue to frequent Agate Lake Resort to spend quality time with family and friends and make memories that will last a lifetime.
We look forward to meeting you and your family!

Agate Lake Resort opened its doors in 1948. Bob and Joyce Watson ran the resort for a while and then in 1972, Darrel and Irene Johnson along with their five children took over resort operations. They sold the resort to Bill and Theresa Garry in 1993. Bill and Theresa raised their four children at Agate Lake Resort, who were also an integral part of the daily resort operations. In April 2021, the Garrys sold it to Don and Halley Acton along with their son, Izzy.
