Summer Hospitality Internships at Agate Lake Resort
$400 per week + free lodging and utilities
Job Description
Are you interested in the hospitality industry and seeking a fun and rewarding internship opportunity? Join us at Agate Lake Resort and spend your summer up north on the lake!
Our paid summer internship is a 12 week structured program with flexibility for start and end dates. As an intern, you will assist managers, help train and motivate employees, and engage with guests while learning to run a successful and efficient business that delivers a superb and safe vacation for all guests.
RESORT ACTIVITIES
Interns will be responsible for organizing, implementing, and supervising activities for guests of all ages on site at the resort. Some activities may include but not limited to: arts and crafts, weekly Welcome Parties, Bingo, Trivia, Movie Nights, Karaoke Nights, and Sports Activities. Responsibilities include maintaining a safe, fun environment while providing enjoyable and educational activities. Excellent verbal communication and experience working with children, teens, and families is important.
SALES & MARKETING
This internship will work directly with our sales and marketing team on social media campaigns and have the opportunity to make decisions about certain marketing strategies. A strength in photography and/or graphic design is a plus!
GUEST SERVICES
Interns are a key component in delivering exceptional guest service as you will be face to face with guests on a regular basis. Job duties include guest orientation of our property, check-in/check-out procedures, reservation processing, data entry, telephone communications, answering guest questions, responding to guest requests, and other duties as needed.
HOUSEKEEPING
Housekeeping is one of the most important departments in any lodging business. Interns will be trained on cleaning procedures and standards and responsible for being part of the team of cleanologists that cleans cabins weekly. Interns will assist managers with cabin inspections, delivering resources (highchairs, cribs etc) and assisting with laundry.
RETAIL MERCHANDISING
Interns will have an opportunity to assist with gift shop operations and tracking sales and managing inventory. Additionally, interns will learn about merchandising along with order processes.
FOOD & BEVERAGE
Agate Lake Resort does have a full liquor license, but we have not yet made use of this. Interns may be scheduled to serve wine and beer in the lodge if we do open that facet of our business this summer.
BEACH, BOATS & MORE
Agate Lake Resort sits on 20 beautiful acres in the Northwoods with a large, sandy lakeshore to maintain. Our team works extremely hard to keep the grounds well-manicured for our guests and visitors alike. Interns will help with all aspects of lawn care and maintenance. This may include things like watering, trimming, waterfront and beach upkeep, and other landscaping tasks as needed. Some boat rental items like keeping the pontoon clean and fueled up also fall under this aspect of the resort operation.
Number of Internships Available:
2 interns will be hired based on qualifications.
A Qualified Intern Must Be Someone:
Who is currently pursuing a college degree or a recent college graduate with a passion for all things hospitality.
Who is outgoing and energetic.
Who works well with both adults and children.
Who has proven leadership skills with an understanding of conflict resolution and problem solving.
Who always maintains a high level of attention to detail and keeps a positive attitude.
Who has excellent communication skills and a beaming disposition.
Who adheres to daily operating and safety procedures.
Who has continuous authorization to work in the United States.
Who has a valid driver's license and is able to provide his/her own transportation to work.
Hours Per Week:​
Interns will work 40 hours per week. However, daily schedules will fluctuate and the position will rotate through tasks for the entire resort operation, allowing the intern exposure to all aspects of the business. The intern will experience the work required to run a resort while witnessing leadership at all levels of the organization. Additional overtime hours may be available to those interested.
Internship Compensation:
Students will receive a stipend of $400.00 per week. Students will also receive academic credit as established through their academic institution and faculty supervisor. When not working, interns will have access to resort facilities/amenities (exceptions may apply).
Internship Housing:
Housing (including utilities) will be provided at no cost to the intern. Each housing unit is fully furnished and equipped with a full kitchen, microwave, cooking/eating utensils, bed, furniture, television and Wi-Fi. A washer and dryer are also available. You must provide your own towels and other personal items. You will be sharing a housing unit with our other intern. You will have your own bedroom and bathroom, but the common spaces will be shared. You must provide your own vehicle for transportation to and from the resort.
